The post-apocalyptic game will start up its in-game calendar on Friday, 21 December 2012. Yup, that’s the date of the supposed Mayan end-of-the-world prediction, reused because there’s no use wasting a perfectly good prophecy. Furthermore, it’s a date that’s in the past. Call me superstitious, but I don’t want to leave any room for accidental predictions.

Computer scientists from MIT say they have made a breakthrough in the field of artificial intelligence. Their software, named “Celestial Mesh”, has demonstrated powers of abstract reasoning that can seem uncannily human.

A 50m long, cylindrical space rock will pass between the Earth and the Moon on December 21, astronomers say. Despite wild speculation in the fringe press a few weeks ago, there is effectively no chance that the asteroid will pose a threat to Earth.
