Character: Brody MacFlarnatarnastan, Dwarven Demolisher

by mshrm

Just because I’m not running Dungeon Fantasy right now, doesn’t mean I can’t play it!

One of the former players has started his own DF campaign, and I’ve scored an invite. It sounds like more of a traditional dungeon-of-the-week setup, with no megadungeon, which has its advantages. They’ve played a couple of sessions, from what I understand, so I’ll be joining that which is already in progress.

When the GM gave me the thumbnail sketch of the other PCs, I saw that they had the big four shticks — fighter, cleric, magic-user, thief — all represented. I decided to branch out and try something a wee bit off-center from my “human fighter” usual.

Meet Brody MacFlarnatarnastan, my “first level” dwarven Demolisher!

Up front, he’s a dwarf, so he’s short, he sings “The Gold Song“, and so forth. As far as he’s concerned, life is just the bit before one’s inevitable horrible demise. Everybody’s doomed, and suffering isn’t anything to get excited about. What is important, is piling up loads of gold by nearly any means necessary. In his case, that means crawling into monster-filled holes to cause fiery explosions.

Brody has On The Edge, because it’s my all-time favorite Disadvantage. (It forces a PC to act like an action hero!) He’s no wild man, though. I’m angling for a sort of quiet, intense disregard for danger. It’s not that he’s suicidal, so much as he’s intent on the job at hand. That level of single-minded attention also provides Daredevil and the “Patience of Job” Perk, which lets him ignore minor discomforts in the course of long-term tasks.

Years of exposure to loud noises in tight spaces has affected Brody’s hearing. From time to time, he is plagued by a persistent, painful ringing in his ears.

His slumped posture betrays his gloomy nature. Between his demeanor and facial tattoos, he’s accustomed to falling under the suspicion of those in authority.

As currently outfitted, Brody is suffering from Light Encumbrance. If given a chance, before combat, he’ll stash his backpack and lantern, which will leave him unencumbered. Or close to, anyway: I figure if he gets a chance to prepare, he’ll start out with his burner in one hand, and a bomb to throw as a combat-opener in the other. Might bury a mine, first, too.

Yeah, I figure he’s a-gonna accidentally blow himself up before too long. I’ve got a backup character on deck. 🙂
